Swelling

I've been on the treadmill 3 out of 3 days!  Go me!!!

But, I'm concerned about the swelling in my hands.  I have to take off my rings before walking or else my fingers swell so much that they hurt.  When I step off of the treadmill I can hardly make a fist.

What's that all about?  Any ideas?

The puffiness is from blood pooling in your hands, which hang lower than your heart and are not engaged in muscular activity... Got that off the internet for you,, :)
When I work out I keep my hands and arms up and pump them as I power walk. Like Oprah does .. LOL

How is your salt intake? Salt can cause swelling!! How much water are you drinking? Drink lots of water!!!

I had the same issue on the treadmill. I try to keep my elbows bent and my arms swinging. It helps with my rhythm and I don't have swelling. Also I puff up like a sponge when I eat salt so watch your sodium intake too.

I'm so proud of you, getting moving is so great!

My hands do the same thing...makes me mad. Drinking more water really helps, but I tend to take my rings off as a matter of course anyway.

Found you through Fat Girl vs World...

I have the same problem! I actually got my rings sized just a little bit too big because of it - when I workout and travel I swell....never been able to figure it out but it is better when you move your arms more or I will occassionally hold them about heart level for a bit to relieve the pressure.

I never wear jewlrey while I exercise... bc the swelling bothers me. Keep you arms bent and also wiggle your fingers from time to time to encourage that blood flow. Wiggle those toes too... (sometimes I get numbness in the toes if I'm on the elliptical for long periods of time.)

Mine do the same thing. I can always tell when I have gained weight by how my rings fit. I agree with the girl who found the info off the net. My hands pulse as well as swelling when I walk on the treadmill. The blood goes down to your hands and fingers. I always have to put them above my head or shake the out ever so often when I am walking, treadmill or not.... Go girl for getting on it though! My goal is to get back on Track on Sunday. I hate starting in the middle of a week. It's a mind thing I know... :)
