Once you go BIG you never go twig

Did anyone watch the premiere of Big Sexy on TLC last night?

I love the fact that these woman are comfortable with their size.  Their confidence amazes me, but in the back of my mind I wonder if it's all a facade.  Maybe it's the fact that I've never been comfortable in my own skin.  I've always felt disgusting and gross because that's how people saw me.  If I had a don't give a flying flip attitude maybe I would feel differently.

I also loved that they had a plus size fashion show.  Too many times I've seen super cute clothes and wish that I could squeeze the cheeks to fit into.  It's nice to see that big girls can also be fashionable and not have to wear Moo-Moo's or frumpy clothes out in public.

The BBW dating scene had me cringing.  #1 - all the guys in that room were not attractive.  They showed the 40 year old, bald, virgin, creepy guy at least 5 different times.  #2 - the thunder thigh competition made me want to hit the tv.  Am I the only one to see this as degrading?

So, did you watch it?  What did you like or not like?  Any comments?

I did not watch it but from the sounds of what you are saying I am happy I didn't! A thunder thigh competition? Really? Not that you can't be overweight and healthy but I don't like the idea of "promoting" obesity....I think it is great that woman feel comfortable in their skin but we should all be thriving for good health.

Hi! Glad to see you are back. I deleted my old blog because I couldn't get the print adjusted and I wasn't able to comment. So no blog...things are good here though and I am so happy to hear you have lost 50 pounds! That's a lot. Summer was good- worked with the clients (I now have 30) and took the grands to Universal and Harry Potter right before school started. Youngest DD is engaged and moving from Austin to San Francisco in a month- her fiance got a good job there and she will look for library positions. I read about your mother- SCARY! Sounds like she is on the mend now though so that is good. Keep up with the weight- you look great in your photos.

No, I missed this show - has the new television season started already?? This shows how totally behind I am. It sounds like reality tv is taking things to a completely new low - I mean level. I mean low level. I won't be watching it. Sounds terribly degrading.

I've never even heard of it, but I fear that being a reality tv show it'd quickly devolve into something offensive!

I feel like any reality show about looks/weight is offensive. I hated Extreme makeover too, I felt like these poeple were unhappy before they got the makeover and would continue to have the same issues post makeover.

That said, I've always been pretty comfortable in my own skin (pregnancy aside) but I've never felt like I was "all that" and that type of attitude rings a little false for me as well.

I didn't see she show, and am glad I missed it. I don't watch the makeover shows (unless it's a DIY home makeover, LOL) because, really? Who are you to say someones NEEDS a makeover?

Also, definitely find the idea of a "thunder thighs" competition completely degrading. Medical obesity shows- that I will watch. But parading unhealthy people around as entertainment? No, thanks.

No didn't watch it. But I think we all should love ourselves in our own skin just the way we are. :)

To bad for stereotyping, sounds disappointing...

I saw the previews, but did not watch. The idea of a thunder thighs competition would turn me off. Like big women need to be degraded more than they are now? As far as I am concerned fat people are the last class of folks that it is absolutely OK to ridicule and talk down to and discriminate against these days - not only with impunity but with throngs cheering them on. So boo to that show.
