Weigh In Confusion

You should be able to get on the scale and believe the number you see.  Instead I'm left second guessing everything!  I've done really well in not jumping on the scale every 10 minutes for the past 2 weeks.  When I told myself that I wouldn't let the number define me, I believed it.

This morning I woke up and weighed 303.4.  I ate breakfast and took a shower (for some reason I always weigh less after I eat breakfast).  I weighed again and the scale said 296.6.  Under 300 pounds?!?!  No way.  I jump back on.....295!  Ok, something isn't right.  That would be almost a 8 pound loss in 2 weeks and I don't feel that I've put in that much effort.  Jump on a final time and it said 301.4.

Now I'm left asking what is the true number?  I thought that maybe my scale was off.  This isn't the first time that the numbers have jumped so ridiculously.  2 weeks ago I made a  trip to Walmart and checked 3 different scales.  They all matched the number on the scale at home.  I just don't understand how a scale can fluctuate 6 pounds within a 5 minute period.

That's tough. I was going to say it may be time for a new scale but now im thinking replace the battery. It shouldn't fluctuate 6lbs in 5. Minutes. Hope that fixes it.

My scale started doing that too. I put in a new battery and that resolved that problem. Now if only it would display the number I wanted it to! LOL

That is weird! Mine stays pretty much the same between those times....Great job on the loss either way!

If it's a digital diplay, the batteries may be shot. I always confirm my weight and the scales accuracy by weighing multiple (usually 3) times. Also...if you have a 10 lb hand weight. Confirm it's accuracy with that because it's weight NEVER changes.

That is incredibly frustrating - and ridiculous that you aren't getting at the very least closer numbers. I say try again later today or check the battery (if you have one) on the scale. Sometimes though, I have lost a fair amount of weight without trying hard like you said, for the simple fact that I wasn't stressing about it. For some reason, stress hangs onto fat like nobody's business. When you busy yourself with other things, sometimes you'll have a good loss (and under 300 would be a great boost, wouldn't it?) Fingers crossed!

Mine does the same thing sometimes. I've gotten to where I get on it once every Friday morning and then stay away from it for another week or else it will drive me batty. LOL

Down a pound, up a pound, down an ounce, up another - those pesky scales seem to play tricks with you or maybe not?!? Even if you still aren't 100% sure, just keep in mind that you are making progress and feeling good!!

You can use a gallon of water to help confirm your scale. A Gallon of water should be 8lbs (well 8.34 lbs) and you can see if your scale is really acting funky.

Hope you solve it soon. I would have got on and saw 295 and not stepped back on for a week (but thats just me lol).

Like everyone else said- replace the battery first. Mine started doing that, battery didn't fix it, so I replaced it. You need something consistent and accurate for tracking your progress!

And kudos to staying off the scale until today! Maybe it's getting back at you for not visiting so often ;)

Yep, battery replacement. And I also do the 3 check weigh-ins like Christie.

Time for a new battery. Mine has started echoing that trend but not in that great of a difference. I like the suggestion to use a gallon of water or a 10lb weight... cool! :)

My scale was doing that too. Someone mentioned to me that maybe my floor was uneven and causing the differences. I moved the scale and from then on out, it was consistent. I know how frustrating that is.

Grrrr, the scale makes me crazy. Maybe a battery replacement is in order as the others have said.
