Jingle Bell Fun Run

The kiddos had a Jingle Bell Fun Run today at school.  I'm not sure why I thought the kids would walk with hubby and me.  They ran past us several times only to slow down to yell what number lap they were on.  I actually am quite happy to see that they all ran.  They didn't sit to "take a break" like many of the other students.  Not saying it's a bad thing, but it just makes me smile.

One of the other parents that I've become an acquaintance with over the years asked if I would like to walk with her.  I said sure.  She says, "Good, I'll have another parent that will walk slow with me.  Us fat girls need to stick together."  #1 Who said I was going to walk slow?  #2  Just because I'm fat doesn't make us instant BFF's.

She ended up attempting to walk with us, but we passed her up (a couple of times).  Honestly, I felt horrible and was worried about hurting her feelings, but hubby told me not to worry about.  I need to focus on me and not if I upset other people by walking too fast.

The good news is that we walked 4 miles in 2 hours!  I feel so accomplished that can't get the smile off my face.  I'm sore as hell, but it was all worth it to know that I was out supporting my kiddos.

Me and the youngest after 2 miles.

My and the oldest after another 2 miles!

I don't know what your acquaintance was trying to accomplish with her comments, but she came off as rather rude, and didn't seem to win a new friend. I don't like being called "fat," even if it is by another overweight person. You handled it well, in my opinion.

A flying saucer? It's actually some type of playground equipment. You are supposed to throw balls into the top, and then the balls fall out one of the mutiple holes.

Cool and I like the activity. My grandsons former school always held a trikeathon/bikeathon in the spring with proceeds going to St Jude's. No adults participated though. I have a couple of neighbors with adult tricycles that look like a lot of fun to ride- they even take their dogs in the baskets.

Congrats on doing the 4 miles! I just found your blog while I was blog hopping around and I've spent the last hour reading through your archives. Being a big girl myself, and having just started my own weight loss blog, you are an inspiration!

You are so kickass!! That other woman had absolutely no right to say that.. I hate it when people (thin or overweight alike) just assume that everyone overweight is slow/lazy/etc. Hopefully watching you pass her up will motivate her to start making changes too!

Great job -- and your hubby is SO right: you come first, and there's nothing wrong with that. How great that he supports you and you and your kids got to have such a fun day! The pic of your family on your wedding day is just gorgeous, by the way. You make a beautiful family!

Whoot! You handled that very well, and awesome time to boot!

Doncha just LURVE winter in Texas? Of course, we'll all be miserable when summer rolls around again, but for now, it's sort of fun to relish the cooler temps and laugh at the northern ice princesses in their parkas.
