My Dad

My Dad is having surgery this morning for a very rare hernia in his abdomen.  It took over a year for a doctor to diagnose the problem.  A year of pain, a year of several emergency room visits, a year of doctors saying it was "just his imagination", a year that his belly has looked like a huge rock was in it.  The doctor who finally diagnosed him said that if Dad would have come in a couple of years ago (with the same problem) that he would send him home because they wouldn't know what to do.  The doctor also said that the surgery will be very painful afterwards.

Please send good vibes to him today.

Edit:  My Dad was out of surgery around 9 this morning.  He is recovering at home and in alot of pain.  I hope they gave him some good pain meds!  Thank you for all the well wishes!

Sending positive thoughts to you and your family. My husband had a very similar issue a couple of years ago. He felt something 'tear' at work and was off on disability for 3 months telling the docs it was a hernia. They kept saying no. Finally with him NO better, they performed surgery and the doc comes out saying, 'huh! He DID have a hernia.' They could never find it because his abdominal wall was thicker than average, I guess. Anyway, from everything I've heard on hernia and speaking for my husband: your dad should feel better upon waking from the surgery - it's that instant a relief. Take care today. Never easy when your dad goes in for an operation so big hugs to you, too.

Sending all the best cyber thoughts to your dad. Poor guy, it seems like he's gone through a lot. It is so frustrating when you are incorrectly or not diagnosed. Hoping he feels well soon.

Sending well wishes and happy thoughts to you all and your Dad! That totally sucks that it took a year to diagnose him. I was the same way with my gallbladder. If he is anything like me, when they finally diagnosed he said 'do whatever you need to do as soon as you need to do it'. I didn't care if they cut me open in the ER for crying out loud. So glad he is finally getting the treatment he deserves!
